Overcoming Stress, Anxiety and Depression

This is a Christ-centered depression and anxiety support group that meets for 12 weekly sessions. Host churches are free to invite other evangelical churches to participate. The group is led by RCM director, Tony Beach. Meetings are approximately 2 hours and consist of video teaching, large group discussion and men’s and women’s small group break outs led by the leaders and volunteers who have strengths in this area.

We use video and discussion material from 2 sources: Brad Hambrick’s G4 curriculum Overcoming Depression and Anxiety (link here), and Paul Tripp and Tim Lane’s How People Change. We also use material from my doctoral work on experiencing God’s presence in anxiety and a video from Mark Vroegep (author of Dark Clouds Deep Mercies) on lament. We focus on the impact of suffering in depression/anxiety, relationships, and how our fallen sinful natures also play into the struggle. We work on understanding our stories and experience God’s deep comfort, growing in redemptive, encouraging relationships, and embracing new life-giving motives from the Holy Spirit.
